Pilot lamp brackets

#1

Post by Gotnoclass » Mon Mar 16, 2015 9:19 pm

I have a set like that that I'm getting ready to put on my 58. Have a few pics of original machines, but can't tell by the parts book if there's a spacer that needs to go between the bracket and the top tree. Does anyone have a good example to answer my question?

Thanks,
Ran

So, you bought those from Bob McKay! You need spacer # 5900. I bought some a few years ago from Bill's in Pa. I think you can get them at a hdwe. store, they are a1/4 X 5/8 with a little over a 1/4 hole.

Thanks! I actually bought mine as a complete set from JW Boon 3 years ago.
appreciate the info. Does it still gets a screw? Or a hex head with a washer underneath?

The original screw works fine, I have seen a few very original bikes with a 1/4 20 cad fillister slotted screw and a star washer, I believe they were all dealer installed.

Are those for turn signals?
Yes, but only on Duo glides. They didn't come in that part number package, only the lens for one did, which is the same for Hydra-Glides which only used a single centrally mounted indicator light.

By 1959 the turn signal indicator lights were factory mounted in the rear fork tins for the King of the Highway packages.

They may have still been add-ons for "lesser" packages.

Here is a video showing the pilot lights properly installed on a '59, not the sockets are forward not to the rear and the slotted screws mounting them. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wow! That's a great video. Thank you for sharing. what wire loom does the cad clip behind the pilot bracket is holding? Is there on in the other side?

I have never seen that before...probably a 9963...like on the rear signals. It is holding the pilot lamp wire....so I would say they did it on both sides, my book only calls for 2 9963 clips on the rear!
