I found this project, a model D, many parts are missing but the existing parts are original in your opinion? Does the engine number seem original Harley Davidson style?

What is there looks correct, the fender skirt on the back is an owner add-on. Lots missing though. Those are sometimes called "3 cylinder" Harley's due to the vertical generator (missing on your pictures). The numbers look fine.

I’d like a clearer photo of the SN but I can’t see anything wrong at this stage. For 1931 in this engine family (D, DL etc) the numbers began at 1000. I do not know exactly how high they went but 2434 is within range.

All characters appear usual factory types for 1931. Notice the 3s are flat-topped and sans serif. I’ve seen that 3 in SNs from about mid-1924–1934.
Notice the serifs on the 1 and D.
The 2 looks like it has a vertical serif at bottom right?
I imagine the 4s have a serif across the base? Notice although the top appears closed it is not really pointed.

Below is an example for comparison of the 3, 1, D and 2.

Did you check the belly numbers?

Casting number looks like 112-29B.
Casting number on the R-H case may be 112-30.

As both Robbie and Eric already suggested, what we are on your pics doesn't sounds the alarmbells..
And what a find you did!...wow...
I would really see a restoration thread on this bike, good luck starting it!
